Better returns with a better layout
Tony Klaassen explains how computer-aided store layout design can save you time and increase revenues by allowing you to keep more kinds of products in the optimum layout.
Planograms are designed to accurately depict which products go where, and how each tool flows to the next – potentially turning a one-tool sale into a multi-tool sale, and bettering your return. The program Sutton Tools uses is called Spaceman, short for space management, but many programs can give you the same positive results.
Companies that are planogramming have reported improved sales presentations and closure results, increased consumer appeal of product displays, and improved retail placement. But more than appearance, planograms can benefit your store in other ways.
Our results have shown that stores using planograms to design their store layout have seen a 25% lift in sales, and a gross margin return on the space being used more effectively. They also allow for improved awareness of your visual merchandising, and help your customers get a better grasp in relative product performance if you are using planograms to store all your high-end brands together.
Efficiency of shelf space allocations rises, as well as brand awareness through the consistency of having certain brands in one area. Stock replenishments are faster and more accurate because a planned layout of your products allows for quicker inventory resets.
At Sutton Tools, we combine planograms with our colour-coordinated product ranges for optimal effect, but planograms work just as well on a range of brands, giving you the competitive edge of a clean, well-organised store.
